Thread: stropping with aluminum oxide

I have read the sticky about stropping with paste, does anyone just strop with aluminum oxide? and how well does it work?

I've never heard of that but if you can find it in a sufficiently small size, 0.5 micron, I don't see why it wouldn't work OK. There's obviously a reason chromium oxide is so popular but I don't know why it's better (or the same, or worse) than aluminum oxide. They seem to have a similar hardness (~9 mohs) so maybe the shape of the particles is different - anybody know?

There are many compounds you can use for razor use and many do experiment. Its just that we are used to using the same stuff we're all indoctrinated with. maybe in times past others have tried all this other stuff and decided the common stuff works best and maybe not.
