I use latigo too. The video doesn't show it very well, but the scales are in a sort-of "U" shape that my last 2 fingers make to limit wobbling, even on loose scales. Takes just a lil practice.

Thanked: 77I've been experimenting with this. Right now it's a hybrid. Half wrist rotation half thumb roll feels very comfortable and quite stable.

You know your in the Big Time when you are both quoted and referenced! (http://straightrazorpalace.com/newbi...tml#post310158)
Thanks very much for the advice; but seriously, nothing has a volume "nob" any more. It's up and down buttons with arrows and I can't find that on my razor anywhere!

OK... so if we are all soooo correct when we flip over the spine... then what's this guy doing?

i've started to roll the blade in my fingers like the short vid. feels like i'll have a callous on my thumb from the gimping but that's good. after a couple weeks i was doing it okay. it does feel akward at first but you might as well keep on.. i figure it's better to do it the right way instead of trying to turn it over blade down and trying each time to get the spine to make contact with the strop first. the guy in stropping on that yellow thing in the longer vid above must have learned it from a cartoon cause that's like how i remember the cartoon characters stropping but that was long ago. i just started str8 shaving so i may be wrong.

He does an easy thing the hard way.
If you want to turn a razor over the edge, go right a head, just make sure it's not in contact with the hone or strop while turning. I find it easier to turn over the spine myself while keeping contact.
You can also do the "Columbus Stroke". It works but it takes more time.

Isn't he honing? Another example of guys getting focused on what looks cool instead of just doing it right.
It looks even cooler when you slap the razor down on the strop and flip it correctly at the same time.
I agree with the "doing an easy thing the hard way". That should be up to him. Suffice to say all this is a lot easier than we seem to communicate.
