Thanked: 5Laps on a Synthetic strop vs Leather strop
I have a Tony Miller synthetic starter/ travel strop. As I've just recently succeeded in getting a test razor sharp enough for a decent shave, however not quite dialed in yet, I've been examining my honing and stropping looking for ways to improve the edge. After reading another thread on the number of passes on a strop, I definitely think I need to increase my laps (I did around 40 after honing and 10-15 before each shave) on the strop. Now the question. Does a synthetic strop, which has a heavier draw, need more laps than a leather strop or is it vice versa? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
BJ

I'm afraid i can't answer accurately, but i've never noticed anyone mention using fewer passes on strops with heavier draw. After honing i usually do a hundred each on the canvas & leather & before a shave 30-40 on the canvas & 50 on the leather. I think you're right about needing to increase. They'll be done in no time as muscle memory increases.
