Default Hand america strops for CrO

Which of the hand america strops would be best for CrO. I am leaning toward the hard felt but would one of the leather ones be better? And if so which one?

I tried the hard felt for CrO2 and it did not work too well. I then pasted the smooth bovine and had great results. I used the liquid and just put X's on it like in Josh Earl did in his video and it works great. I still use the hard felt pasted for knives but it is too rough and inconsistant for a razor.

Soft cowhide IMHO, check Tony Miller's site. He tells you what's what. I haven't dealt with Hand American, although I hear they have nice stuff.

I've got the leather and the bovine, and for me either one works well. I like the horse.

I believe anything soft works well, horse or cow. I use the sticks of cr02, the one's Don and Lynn sell on their site. Very easy to apply.

I have had great luck with the Chromium Oxide on the felt pads when I used the liquid. Keith used to make a thick or waxy type paste that worked well on the felt too, but I don't think he has it any more. For the pastes, I prefer a very very thin layer on the leather. The leather in the flatbed honing kits is really nice for the Chromium Oxide pastes. Thin layer is the key. I also like the idea of dabbing the powder over the thin layer for a little extra pizazz.

How easy is it to apply the CrO to the felt pad...if i wanted my progression to be .5 diamond then CrO then Cotten then leather...would CrO on Leather or felt be better...or is either just as good.

I just want to add that my experence with the felt was on the flat bed hone from Hand American. I really like the flat bed honeing system I just didn't care for the felt as a pasted razor flat bed strop I perfered the smooth bovine. Keith from HA had sent me several different pads to try and I think the smooth bovine works good for paste and the horse works great as a strop. The felt sees use on kitchen knives and seems to put a good polish on them. I have not had any experence with SRD felt hanging strop but the reviews are good on it as a pasted strop. I don't want anyone to confuse the two.

I had good luck with the Hand American flat bed and the felt. I used the liquid that Keith supplied. I now use the felt hanging strop with diamond spray from Straight Razor Designs for even better results. YMMV.
