Please help me decide on a Tony Miller strop.
I have a four sided paddle strop that I got from Tony a few months back. The plain leather side of it is what I've been using for stropping. Recent discussions have convinced me that I need a real hanging strop.
I only have two considerations: It can't be more than a hundred bucks, and it has to be from Tony Miller. Other than that... let er rip.... canvas? Latigo? both? I haven't a clue.
Thanks gents!

I'll help you out - give Tony a PM and ask him for his phone number. This is the best advice you'll get on the subject. Can a mod please close this thread now...? (just kidding/sarcasm/tongue in cheek/not serious)

Well it depends on what kind of draw you want as well as width ....
If you can figure that much out and PM Tony or call him up I am sure he can come up with just what your looking for ...
I for one can say he works well with others and exceeds there expectations.

It is hard if you haven't experienced the feel of the horse versus the latigo. The horse is very smooth and feels like there is no resistance. The latigo has way more draw A.K.A. resistance. I couldn't decide either so I ordered a horse/latigo and later got Tony to make a linen to go with it.
Here are photos of mine. A different model without the hardware on the bottom. The leather on the bottom is cut in the shape of a handle and that might be cheaper if Tony will make it for you. It is a 2 1/2" which I prefer.
I use both the latigo for 25 followed by the horse for another 25....... after the linen of course.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

+1 on contacting Tony Miler directly for his advise. He is a real gentleman and a pleasure to do business with. I wish there were more ways to thank him other that recommending his wares and buying more myself!

Anything from Tony will be top quality leather, even the starter strops which is what I STILL use. I think mine is horse since it is sooo smooth, but I got it a while ago so it is different from any he carries now. The only real differences (besides the synthetic) are the hardware and configuration. THe best way to decide on what you NEED? Call the man.

The strop in that thread is what I'd like, minus the horse hide strop. I think the linen would be useful coming off of the .25 diamond, and since the leather side of my paddle strop is high-draw I'd like to stay with the high draw latigo on the hanging strop. Maybe if I hussle, I can get my order in today...

Sounds like you have made a decision already, but I will chip in anyhoo:
I say latigo and linen. I have that setup, with d-rings, from TM and I REALLY like mine. I have had it for a year or so, and it keeps getting better the more I use it.

I just showed my wife this thread, and she was a bit disappointed... She didn't want me to order the Shaptons or the Coticule I was after eariler, cause she was trying to get a surprise for my birthday. Well, she had already ordered me a strop. The girl has pretty good taste, though... even though it's not a TM : / it's still a very nice fabric/ latigo 3" combo strop from SRD.
