Being around horse tack growing up, we never oiled any until it started to dry out. Then we used neatsfoot oil. But, when the tack was first purchased, the natural oils were plenty for the first few weeks/months depending on the item and how hard it was used. So, just use it as is until it starts to dry out. It will start to get a little stiff. Look like it is a bit dry.
