Pasting Formula
Henley's Formulas 1938
#1 Jewelers Rouge, plumbago, suet, equal parts melt, mix, use when cold.
#2 Levigated oxide of tin 3 parts, lard 2 parts, crocus martis 1 part, mix
#3 Tin oxide 1 oz.
Oxalic Acid 1/4 oz.
Powdered Gum 20 grains
Make a stiff paste with water, spread evenly and thinly on strop, the other side should be conditioned
with a greasy mixture, slightly moisten before use by breathing on the pasted side.
Helpful hints.. Plumbago is graphite
Oxalic acid is added as a rust preventive ( I think)
Generally most of the formulas use a finely powdered polishing agent, tin, Iron, or a natural one, Lard or wax softened with oil seems to be in as well. I hope this is useful.

Oxalic acid is highly toxic. Even the odorless vapor. Take care in handling

Oxalic Acid
Using Oxalic Acid Around the Home
Oxalic acid is safe to use around the home, as long as you take the correct safety precautions.
Rust stains on porous surfaces such as carpets and clothing can be removed by using oxalic products. Applying the chemical to the effected area and blotting the excess will make the carpet look as good as new. Beware - do not use normal household bleach to remove rust stains - it will make it worse!
Oxalic acid can be used to remove blood, ink and urine stains from carpets.
Oxalic acid can also be found in various household cleaning products such as Barkeeper's friend, a popular wood product from the United States.

Safe handling of Oxalic Acid
Safe enough if handled carefully, however ingesting 5-15 gms is fatal. Keep away from pets & children.

No1 seems really messy. I kinda dislike anything with graphite in it after having used graphite compound for a couple of years.
