    Default Stropping on Stamp

There is stamp on my 3" latigo strop for TWSG and I was just wondering what people think about stropping over that area. I only lose 2 inches or so because of the stamp so it isn't essential, but if it would do no harm, id rather use the entire strop.

Seems like it wouldn't do any damage becuase it is a depression, but it just doesnt sound good. Thanks in advance.

    Good question.

I don't strop the stamp, but would be interested to hear what others have to say about it.

My Dovo strop is under 12" long, and there is a stamp at the top that takes up a whole 1.5". I can't believe they would do that unless you were supposed to keep on using that area.

I generally try to avoid it, but often go over it by mistake. It seems fine.

EDIT> Ah, I've just worked out who TWSG are. From what I know of Tony Miller he wouldn't put a stamp on the leather if it posed any risk to the razor. But I'm sure he will give a straight answer if he sees this thread, or if you contact him.

You must use a lot longer strokes than mine because I rarely approach the stamp. While it won't hurt your blade it probably won't do that much for it either.

It won't hurt anything to go over the stamp but I myself don't use that long of a stroke either and I am a big guy with long arms. Being below the surface it will pose no harm.

    Raj,

I know, these acronyms are a bear. (and it probably should be THRSC_TWSG.c)

But then I don't do text messaging either, or would that be BtIDDTME?

I have never had any problems if I go over the stamp. Also rarely do in the normal stoke.

Tis better to strop on your stamp, than to stamp on your strop!

Well I also have a black latigo strop with 24 inches of usable leather. Switching from that to the Dovo Prima Rindleder with only 10 inches of usable area (if you avoid the stamp) is quite an adjustment. I'm not sure I even need to use the Dovo as a "finisher", but it can't do any harm.
