Thanked: 1Strop Dressing?
Hello SRP,
Well I've just received most the tools needed for my first straight shave, razor came in yesterday. (13/03/09). Strop also came in, now my question is---Do I need to dress the strop before I use it. Wait that sounded funny, naked strops LOL.
It's a 2" Dovo strop, can I or do I want to use it naked? Must it have some sort of dressing applied? I don't want to ruin the great edge that already came on my blade.
Thanks
Jaydawg

I guess you could follow the breakin instructions in the WIKI or just strop with it.
I, just bought some tanned leather and stropped with that with no breakin. Not had a problem yet.

My strop came with instructions that said my strop needed no treatment and to use it for a few weeks without doing anything to it. It said that later if I felt I needed more "Draw" or of strop felt dry or if I wanted it to feel more supple then I could add a few drop of something, like Neat's foot oil. So far I have been using it the way I got it and it works great.

I would leave it alone for now. The instructions Mike257 has are for a latigo strop which may never need any dressing at all. Use yours a while as it is then check the Wiki for the suggestions there.
