    Default Colgate and Strops

    Again same topic different thread.

I read that the barbers put lather on the strop and that lather is meant to pull the oil out of the skin.

So I put some lather on my Mr. Ugly Bench stop and scraped it off 12 or so hours later.

Did a great job of removing some of the oil and lessening the draw.

I've not used it on the leather, but it cleans the canvas up nicely. I rubbed it in, then scraped it off & repeated till it was coming away clean.

I put it on black latigo leather and it scraped off gray. So I know it pulled out oil.

Why would you want to pull the oils out of the strop? Isn't that what makes it supple? Maybe it's just because I'm an advocate of a strop with a little more draw....but I would think lather would dry the strop out.
