    Smile New strop Question

    Hello everyone

I know that tomandjerry00 just made a similar post to this one but i had some more spacific questions....

I just purchased a Illinois #827 and was wondering what I need to do to prepare it for use. Also i had read that some of you do not like the linen side. Is it going to damage my razor or will it just not be useful. Is there anything that I could do to make it perform better? My razor is a DOVO carbon steel.

    Thanks.

Really you don't have to do anything to them other than use them to break them in correctly....
If you want to break them in slightly faster then use some Neat's foot oil on a rough cotton cloth and rub it in the leather vigorously... For the linen which works great BTW get a new nylon scrub brush like the wife uses on the floors and rub down the linen for a few minutes... That all ya need to do...

You can always just massage the strop with your hands before each use. That alone will help keep it supple.

EDIT: Just realized that was your first post! Welcome!

+1 on that. A good palm rub is all that is needed to help make the strop more supple. I do not have experience with the linen, but the leather is usually all set out of the box. Jeremy-
