    Default Cleaning Vintage Linen

I picked up a vintage strop on ebay yesterday. The linen side looked like it was in good condition, based on the pics, just dirty. I was thinking of using a nylon brush and detergent, but was not sure if it would damage the fabric , or cause it to deform when it dried. Any advice on how to best clean it up would be appreciated.

Ray, I have washed them ina bucket with cold water and Woolite and I have also thrown one in the washing machine along with the clothes. Both methods were fine with my preference being the first one.

I did this not only to clean them but also to get rid of the lumps that had developed over the years that they had been in someones attic or whatever. I air dried them on a flat surface with a board and some weight on them. They came out nice and flat and soft and supple.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
