    Default stropping a kamisori

Whenever I strop a kamisori on a hanging strop, it scratches the strop. Any suggestions as to why this happens and how I can avoid it would be welcome. At the moment my only solution is to use a paddle strop, which is not nearly as fun.

    Thanks!

Joel, you will need to knock the corners off the Kamisori at heel and toe.
They are very pointy and cause inadvertent scratches.

Not sure why that would happen, my only suggestion would to strop as gently as possible. Kamisori can also have a viscous spike that could, if not careful, scratch a strop easily.

Its got to be the pointy heal and or toe. Kill it/them carefully. The very tip doesnt mater much anyway. Unless you are getting scratches from the middle somewhere. Then Id say it wouldnt shave very comfortably.

NO NO NO don't kill the edges. That is the way they are supposed to be.

When you strop a Kamisori you just need to be VERY careful. A Kamisori is essentially a double spike and though many take those edges off a spike you don't do that or it's not really a Kamisori anymore.

Just try and keep your strop as tout as possible.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about muting the toe . Iwasaki razors come like that standard.

It's also possible that the toe has been honed to a burr or maybe has been bumped forming a a small fold. Tapping a fingernail can do it.
Muting the point by 1 or 2 strokes on the finest stone can fix it. The next honing would likely restore the tip point.

I use a Boker Loom strop to do mine to avoid this problem. It works a treat and it's exactly the right size for the smaller blade.

You are lifting/dropping the handle as you are ending your stropping stroke, it is very noticeable (Scratches) when stropping a Kamisori
Many people do it when stropping in general, but the size of the blade hides it with a longer blade

A lift will cause a tip scratch a drop will cause a heel scratch

Last week I tried again with a hanging strop, being very careful with the tautness and angle and everything, and observing what happened. I noticed that the kamisori would scratch the strop at both the heel and toe, but only on the hollow (ura) side.
