Thread: using a block of Chromium oxide

I have a block of green paste that came with my livi loom strop. I just bought one of the Perfrorma strops and am wondering what the best method is to applying paste to a hanging strop. I don't have any strop oil at the moment, can i Just run the block over the strop until it turns a light green?

AFAIK the Livi strops go against all recommendations i've read here & have it practically trowelled on.
Hanging strops can go much lighter on it.

If you don't like the X pattern, i guess you could apply it more uniformly, but go light. You can always add more.

On the Livi loom strops, I just rub the paste lightly until the linen side gets a light coating of green color. You don't want to cake it on.

Here is the old Josh Earl tutorial on pasting a strop. I have a Livi loom and the fabric looks like a pool table but it sure works good. I pasted a Hand American magnetic felt for their flatbed hone using Josh's method. A little does go a long way.It ended up being about as green as the Livi loom but it isn't uneven or caked and it works fine. My favorite pasted tool has become the felt hanging strop from SRD with the 0,5 diamond spray. It shot the chrom ox out of the saddle.

I used Lexol leather conditioner to mix with the paste, worked pretty well, didn't think the Lexol would hurt, was I wrong?
