Thanked: 1Strop sellers? (sources)
If there's a thread for beginners that are shopping for a strop, please suggest a thread or source for purchasing the item. It seems that there's imported, two sided, or other numerous options....lots to learn. Also, will be searchin' for those on here that sharpen to 'shave ready' condition for beginners.
Thanks for any assistance,
John

Thanked: 13245Here is what I usually recommend, First check out the vendors section right here on SRP keep it in the family here if possible...
SRD, Heirloom, Damon, and IIRC Kenrup all offer strops... in all different price ranges...
If that doesn't float yer boat then I would check out a Illinois #827 on goggle you can get them for $35 shipped all day long and they're are a good solid linen/leather performer....Last edited by gssixgun; 05-06-2009 at 07:00 PM.

Hi,
You'll find a honer here, Member Services - Straight Razor Place Classifieds. They'll all be fine, so it's your choice.
You could even pick one with a link on their post if it's easier ^ Good luck with the strop too!

If time permits, within the next few weeks I should be posting a small number (approx 5) of handmade hanging horsehide strops at an affordable price that are perfect for beginners as well as for experienced shavers looking for an additional strop. Both sides will be finished with D rings on both ends for ease of using either side and either end. I'm halfway done with the assembly and finish work.
This doesn't help you for right now, but I suggest either sending me a PM and I can notify you when they're complete or I suggest monitoring the classifieds as other strops come up there for sale as well as mentioned previously in this post.

ok quick get your pay pal ready.
great strop for pasting, i just bought one:
Lynn Abrams Perfect Edge Hard Felt Wool Strop by Hand American - Straight Razor Place Classifieds
and if your kinky:
Razor Strops, Hones, and Accessories
i have an illinois 827 strop. i hate it. the thing sheds like crazy. its so hard, and not hard like good quality leather hard, i mean the thing barely has any pull on it. once i sell 2 more razors im getting a new strop. the illinois would be great material for making a paddle strop.
thats just my opinion.Last edited by OutlawSkinnyD; 05-06-2009 at 07:29 PM.

Thanked: 1903Welcome to SRP, John.
Whatever you do, make sure you do not spend too much money on your first strop, as you will likely nick it. My first was €35, and I actually wanted one that was €90. Good thing the guys at The Different Scent did not let me buy it.
Oh yes, I turned my first strop into a pasted strop after fixing some rather nasty nicks.
