Default TM 3" Red Latigo and Horcehide PLUS vintage Prime horse hide strop

Just a few days ago I received 3” Tony’s strop. BTW, it is shipped absolutely flat, not folded or rounded, which immediately suggest that manufacturer know what he is doing. Red Latigo + Horcehide. Besides a great buying experience with him and wonderful strop, most likely I was the first customer in Russia. (thank you Tony) What can I say – double, no, triple wow! I had previously Dovo strops and some vintage strops, which I really like. So, I had something to compare it with.

What I actually found out, that Tony’s strop will not replace strops I had before, but will be amazingly added and blended to existing strops and will take my razors to a completely new level of stropping and sharpening. Here is explanation why it is so.

Typical stropping suggest to use Canvas/lien and after finishing with fine grain horsehide. Well, nothing wrong with that, it is absolutely correct, I’ve done this way all the time. However, I’ve decided to make some experiment. Started with canvas, then moved to Tony’s Red Latigo, changed strop to vintage Prime horse hide finishing side and finished with Tony’s horsehide… Henckels 401 were cutting hairs in my arm 1,7 sm (1/2 inch ) above the skin absolutely effortlessly… that not a HHT, this is Standing Hair Test! Second razor I’ve stropped yesterday shoved absolutely identical result.

The reason of that I believe is really simple. Tony’s horsehide is really fine grain leather which is perfect for final touch stropping and really “slippery”. Old vintage strop has slightly more grain but still fine grain, and adding it in between red latigo and Tony's horsehide gave great result. Canvas just used initially Moving backwards gave me amazing result with just a little bit more time involved.

Here is some pictures I’ve made for comparison.

Strops do not use. How do you evaluate them?
You once shaved a straight razor?

Love your strops, I really like the stitching on your old school strop. The way it was treated as well. What do you use to treat them? Minx oil, Fromm, Neats Foot?

    Thanks
