Default Pink dust on razor after stropping

    Hi,

I have a dovo 2" russian hanging strop, and a dovo spike point razor. After I've finished stropping, I find that there is often a sprinkling of a pink coloured dust from the surface of the strop on the razor.

I didn't think I was applying any pressure during the stropping action, but I'm not sure if this is normal or because I'm doing something wrong.

Has anyone else seen this before?

    regards,

Is the spine etched? When I strop a razor with a fancy-shmancy spine it leaves patterns along the length of a latigo strop. I don't have a Russian leather strop, could a less than smooth spine cause the effect you're getting?

I saw the same thing when my Illinois 827 was new, but it stopped when it was broken in. The edges I was getting were fine, so I did not mind it.

Yes, I get latigo shmutz on my razors while I'm stropping.

It's lie vitamins for your razor or something, I don't think it's any big deal (I hope...)

The Dovo Best Russian strops do this, in my
opinion, and it is totally normal. It is a result
of the Russian processed leather -- enjoy!

Had the same thing when I first started with mine. It went away after a short break in period.

I think you're getting the message by now but if not, I've also seen the same thing. Don't worry about it. If the leather seems excessively dry, you could condition it with a little neatsfoot oil or by daily rubbing with your hand.

Just figured I'd add that I see the same thing after stropping on my TM latigo. Nothin' wrong with it. The edges are always keen.

Thanks very much everyone, I'm glad to hear that I'm not screwing up. I'm really getting the hang of the stropping action, but the dust was worrying me a bit. I've noticed that there isn't as much of it now as there was a couple of weeks ago, so it looks like all is in order.

    regards,
