I used to do 50 linen 50 leather until I read about thebigspendur's experiment. Now I do 60 and 60. Might be a case of your technique ? I keep light pressure on the spine and just touch the edge.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

It has been said already, but if it's dulling when stropping, you are doing it wrong.
Maybe try placing the strop on a table or other surface, and repeat your stropping experiment. If it dulls it again, then I suspect your edge isn't all it should be.
If not, then you know it has to do with your pressure while stropping or strop tension.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'd bet I'm still putting to much preasure on the blade. I've been stropping knife blades for years and I keep forgetting this is a much more delicate edge.

I'm a 60/60 man like Jimmy, and all the way
up to the last ten passes I can feel the draw
on the leather getting just right.
