SRD Chromium Crayon

Has anyone pasted a strop with the crayon form of Chrom Ox offered at SRD?

I've read Josh Earl's sticky about pasting a strop with Chrom Ox powder and liquid, but how would you go about applying the crayon version? I'm assuming you would just rub it evenly in a thin layer all over the face of the paddle strop?

If you do that you'll almost certainly end up with too much. You don't need even coverage for it to work, and shooting for evenness causes you to overapply.

Just draw a light crosshatching X pattern on the strop, and rub it around as much as possible.

When its wax based it might help to pull it off with a warmed up scraper.

The chromium crayon from SRD is originally made by Mastro Livi. He coated a loom strop for me and put it on rather evenly, smoothing it out with a rag soaked in gasoline (really).

That's exactly what I did with mine. Works great...

Dan,

Did you use a glove or something (cloth) when you rubbed it in, or did you just use your bare hand?

I just did the X pattern rub in with it not an hour ago with my bare hands.

Then again....I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. Just thought you should know.

I have one. I used it on one of Tony Miller's super wide paddle strops, I applied it right to the paddle via the crayon, nothing fancy, rubbed it in a bit with the palm of my hand, works great, lasts a long time. I like it, and it does a super job....

I did the same thing. Don't be afraid to get your hands dirty.
