Default Applying CrO paste to a felt strop?

I have a pressed wool strop from SRD, and have CrOx paste in wax form. Could someone give some advice regarding how best to apply it to felt?

I can dissolve the grated wax in alcohol and make a paste, but how should I apply it to the strop so it doesn't soak in too much?

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Anybody? How about some educated guesses? Or is this just a stupid question and you're all trying to be kind?

You want to rub it very lightly on the felt and then spread it around with a rag. Bear in mind, you don't want to put too much on. We've all heard it....several light coats are better than one heavy one. Don was talking about this last weekend on the way to the NC get together. To paraphrase; you just want to tint the felt, don't rub it on like a crayon. If all else fails, give Don a call at SRD.

BTW, when you describe your CrOx as being in wax form I am assuming you mean the little stick from SRD. If it is something else (like the stuff from Woodcraft) you might want to check w/Don first.

Have you tried to contact Don or Lynn? I have found both to be stand up guys who will work with you. They've always answered my questions, not matter how dumb the questions might have been...

The sticks will go on although you have to be very light with them. I like the harder substances like chromium oxide and yellowstone blocks more on the poly webbing and the sprays and pastes more on the felt.

I got CrO powder from ChrisL and jus sprinkle it on lightly and rub it in. That worked good for me.

Just a thought...maybe you could crayon it onto a smooth surface like cardboard and then wipe the felt with the cardboard.

    Thanks very much, guys.

What I have is the CrO crayon that Karakoup1 (Valentin) was selling a few months ago. I have used it on a cotton canvas from Tony Miller. But, with the canvas, I was able to rub it on. The crayon is very hard, so after reading a post by Floppyshoes on applying CrO to a balsa strop, I thought I might create a paste out of grated CrO (it dissolves very easily into a paste using alcohol). I'm just not sure how to apply it to the felt.

So I guess two questions come to mind: What would be the best way to apply such a paste to the felt? And anyone have any opinions on the crayon that Valentin was selling?

    Thanks again for advice.

Make a thin liquid, not a paste, then shake it up (it settles fast) and paint it on to the surface. Let dry 20 min between coats. Apply as many coats as you think is necessary.

Super! Thanks Dan. I wondered if you might weigh in. Much appreciated.
