Deer skin strop

I made a deerskin strop and need to break it in It does not grab but it does not slide very smooth yet I am rubbing it with my hand for now trying to get it right here are some pics also included is the webbing strop that i also made and the cloth side on the leather strop is linen

I have been using my hand to condition it and it is getting a lot smother with less and less draw. I am very happy with it and the more use it will be great I think. I will mark this project as a win!

How thick and supple is the deer skin? Any idea how it was tanned?

The Roo skin from Jimbo is really cool, but very thin. It will be interesting to see how the deer does. Looks like it should really have some drag too.

I covered one of my paddles with deer skin, the other side is pasted. I found that the deer skin side has a nice draw to it. It was smooth enough after the tanning process so all I had to do was hand rub it. It worked out fine.

It is a 1/8 inch thick and very soft. The leather was given to me so I will have to check on the tanning method and the draw on it is great now that I have been rubbing it with my hand.
