Default diamond spray, how often to apply?

I've been using the 0.5 μ diamond spray from straight razor designs on the linen part of my Illinois 827 strop. I strop with the coated linen about once a week, and arbitrarily re-apply a new coat about every four uses (once a month).

So far its been doing a good job to supplement the regular leather stropping I do with each shave. But the stuff is expensive and I wonder if I am over spraying? Anyone else have more experience as to how long the stuff lasts? Unlike pastes, its kind of hard to see it after it dries.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm glad this thread came up, and it was something I was thinking about a few days ago.

I'm in the market for a new pasted strop. I like the idea of the hard felt from SRD with the diamond spray but wondered how it would perform over time. In the past I have used a cheap leather strop with chromium with great success, but it was lost in my recent move and needs a replacement.

With the chromium, it was easy to see when it needed to be applied again, but a white spray on a white strop could be a problem.

I dont know how helpful this will be, (experienced dudes chime in,) but i bought the linen/felt wool from SRP and pasted the linen with the CrOx and the wool with 1.0 um diamond paste.
However, i used a light coat of white paste on the felt wool first, let it dry, then applied the diamond paste...seemed to go on smoother and required less. This might work for the spray too?

    Thanks,
    Mac

Thanks Mac, I am not an expert on this, but I wonder whether the paste might have very different properties compared to the spray.

Anyone else with direct experience with the durability of the diamond spray?

I have the SRD felt hanger and I sprayed it when I got it the one time. You can see the stropping area turning black now. I haven't reapplied and it still seems to be effective. When it seems that it is not I guess I will spray it again. I find it seems to leave a smoother feel to the edge than paste. At least to my skin.
