Default White paste on the back of a latigo?

OK, perhaps this is a question for Mr. Miller...

I've lately had the crazy idea of putting the Dovo white paste on the backside of my Apprentice strop, to fill it in, smooth it out, and have it act more like the canvas strop on my Artisan.

    Anybody ever try this?

Does it sound like a god idea?

    Have I lost my marbles?

Are you saying that you've used the white paste on the backside of the leather, or that you use it on the canvas, as it is meant to be used?

I have used, and am a fan of using white paste on canvas, I just want to see if I can also perhaps use it on the backside of the Apprentice leather, as that'd make a sweet travel strop.

    Seraphim,

What micron level is the white paste? I want to place a WTB in the classifieds.

    Thanks,

    Ogie

I'm not sure what rating I'd give it. Certainly lighter, and much milder than Chromox.

    Default White Paste

I think its a .50 rating. Yellow 1.0, Green 3.0. That is how they are arranged on my 4 sided pasted strop with one side unpasted.

OK, so I tried it: white paste on the backside of my beloved TM Starter strop. I was hoping for the ultimate all-in-one strop.

    Not pretty.

    Not a good idea.

I did panic, thinking I had ruined my Latigo love.....

I scraped off the discolored goo (the white paste does not apply evenly to the leather) with the back of a table knife, re-oiled the strop, and I'm back in business.

White paste is for fabric only.
