    Default Strop Cupping

My DOVO strop isn't flat. It has a noticeable cup to it. I have a shave ready straight on the way and wondered what to do about the strop.

Can you guys help me with advice please?

One trick I have heard about is to rub it down on your counter with a bottle.

Just out of curiosity, has the strop been hanging since you have had it??

    Thanks,

Of course this would be a perfect excuse to just buy a nice, new SRD strop.
I'm was just thinking... you know how it is.

I would try to fix what you have if possible before you buy anything else.

    Have fun,

If you have the extra money, get the SRD strop...i have one and love it.

Ive also got an Dovo strop and the SRD, is much better overall, IMO.
The Latigo leather, is much stiffer/thicker than my Dovo Russian (very thin,) so there is an adjustment to the different leather types when stropping.

However, the SRD Latigo, is sturdier and ive not had any cupping with it and i like the shaves i get off of it.

    Good luck,

    Mac

    Default cupping

    Hello
I had a similar problem, it improved by putting a light coat of neatsfoot oil followed by using a bottle and letting the strop hang. This took almost a month to look better and I still have to hit the glass bottle to it a few times a week or it starts cupping again. Very strange and annoying.

Dont sacrifice the Dovo to being a pasted strop. These strops are as good as any out there imo. Cupping can be corrected without oils lotions etc by just massaging the leather between the fingers and as Tony says, by pinching the strop at the top till convex then maintaining that position with the fingers, you drag them down the strop. reapeat this a few times till it holds the convex shape. Give the leather another kneeding then buff the surface with the palm of your hand till a sheen becomes evident.
This buffing should be done prior to every use on any strop to warm the leather and pass on the natural oils from the hand to the strop. Draw will be increased the natural way like this without the need for this fashion for mink and neatsfoot oil.

    Good luck to you

I tried what you said, my friend, and it worked perfectly. And it worked quickly. I've been buffing the surface with the palm of my hand daily as you suggested and it's there, flat and with a good draw to it.

I didn't get around to trying the bottle idea, since I could do with without taking the stop down. So I don't know.

this idea worked like a charm.

    Thanks a million
