Travel strop for BIG razor
Hi all,
I have TM's travel box strop already, and it does not fit the razor I want to travel with (of course I understand the asy solution is to travel with a smaller razor...but that is far too simple an answer, and does not end with me getting to buy a new toy).
Anyway, need a travel strop...would like it to be two sided so as to hold some paste for touch up. Needs to hold beefy 8/8 or 9/8 razors with pretty hefty scales.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Mean-spirited barbs meant to hurt my feelings?

Thanked: 190I only use my disposable straight razors when I travel. Its just too much to lug around my strops.

Thanks, but when I go away for more than a few days, I don't want to be stuck with a shavette. I enjoy a "real" straight too much to do without, and am willing to risk customs/TSA and lug it around to get the sahves that I want. I also often have three day growth four times in a vacation, and the time to really relax and enjoy the shave....no WAY I'm wasting that ona shavette.

Sorry, I must have been unclear, I mean something that would fill a similar role as Tony Miller's travel strop box. Somthing that could hold a 8/8 or 9/8 raze AND function as a strop...all in one unit. ANyone have any experience with the TI travel strops? Will they hold a big blade?

Thanked: 190Idea for you. Tony Miller made me a nice 4 sided paddle strop. I think one side can come off and under it can be cut into to make room for your razor(s). Sounds a little like something James Bond would have and something you can ask TM about.
You can leave one side just leather and paste up the other three.
Good Luck!

I've seen somewhere online kiri(paulownia) wood boxes.
They are usually much better made than the run of the mill wood boxes they sell at Hobby Lobby etc.
Paulownia is somewhere between balsa and bass in density.
.... maybe a display box for meant chopstick, kiridashi, wakamisori... or something along those lines would be the right size.
That wont get you the pivot lid (love that style) How soon do you need it?
maybe I can help

I have carried a 7/8 Friodur in my TI travel strop (case) with no problem. It's a little bit of a squeeze, but I'm pretty sure that the leather pocket that the razor sits in will stretch enough to fit it perfectly, given a little time. Actually, I usually carry the razor in a separate case anyway, and throw it in my shaving kit. The TI strop does a pretty good job and it will accept paste on one side.

Thanks for the info, Bill. Oh, adn to the poster before, I don't need anything until december, which is when I go on my next long trip. Until then, it's weekenders only, and I'll just bring a small razor in the TM. It's just that all my favorites happen to be at least 7/8, most are bigger.
