    Default Need a good Strop

I just started the straight razor habit and I need a good strop. I have narrowed it down to the Miller (pricey but nice), some oldies but goodies (horse hide versions of Illinois, Medal of Award, Koken's, Pike, all vintage but serviceable). Which way is the best to go? I am not flush with cash (who is these days?) but I will pay for better quality...if it is worth it. I know nothing about strops so treat me like an infant here. I appreciate any comments.

I've said this so much lately that I'm starting to feel like an infomercial salesman, but I can't say enough good things about my SRD strop. I went with the 3" latigo, which I like because of it's heft.

+1 on Jimmy's advice. I f you go the vintage path make sure it is in top condition or you might just have a wallhanger.
One of the new strops mentioned would be a safe bet.

I bought a new 3" Latigo leather/canvass strop and its great. Mine was made by the Amish and they do good work.

I also bought a 4 sided paddle strop from Tony Miller and its excellent quality. I pasted three sides of this and I am very pleased with the results and functionality. TM does very good work and I highly recommend him.

Spend a little to get the better stuff and you will thank yourself over and over again.

I bought New when I got started because I did not have the education or experience to buy vintage items and evaluate them correctly.

SRD Premium I is my recommendation too (like Jimmy). I have a pretty good assortment of strops and use the SRD as my everyday strop. In addition to being great performers these strops can be re-fitted with new leather pieces if you damage the original or want to try a different leather.

I just picked up a Medal of Award 813 strop in good condition for $10. I will use this until I learn to be proficient and my purse grows fatter and then I will spring for an SRD. I appreciate all of you suggestions.
