Lapidary Sprays
I was wondering if any of the Honemeisters around here ever use diamond sprays on their leather hones or strops. They go down to .01 micron and would seem to go on more evenly than the pastes. Also, I have only gone from my finsihing stone to .5 micron to plain strop. Is there any real shaving advantage to goin with a finer grit than .5?
Thanks

Korndog,
The super fine 0.25 is mostly for polishing a blade but I do use it myself. I have a flat paddle strop setup with 0.5 and 0.25 I keep handy in the bathroom and when using a razor I know to be less than top notch I have it handy for a few swipes before regular stopping.
I do think 0.5 is the most logical stopping point though.

Thanked: 2209Some people have gone as fine as the 0.25 micron diamond. Some swear by it and others swear at it because it make the razor "to sharp". I cannot imagine using a 0.01, but I might someday!
There is also the Linde B aluminum oxide sold by some lapidary suppliers, it is 0.0025 micron. Make sure of the size before you order it though.
The main question to ask about the lapidary sprays is what is the density of diamond, the type of diamond (mono or poly crystaline) and what is the carrier (water, oil, etc?)

Thanked: 2209You will find a confusion about the nomenclature. be sure and ask about the micron size.
