    Default nicked strop

My old strop has several nicks on the side. Is there a way to do something about these to make it usable again?

    Hey Rob,
When I first started stropping my razor and until I learned correctly I left a few nick marks on my strop. I now use a pumice stone thats available from Ray at
www.classicshaving.com Run that over the nick marks and smooth them out. It worked great on mine. Hope this helps.

Also a very fine sandpaper will work just as well.

Whichever you use, make absolutely SURE that the leather is cleaned off before stropping again. I've found abrasive particles left behind by both methods, and really don't want to introduce my edges to them.

Many folks recommend cleaning with a non-water base cleaner like goop.

For the rare occasions I've had to clean a strop I've either used lexol leather Cleaner or Bick leather cleaner. The Bick is not a soap and conditions and cleans at the same time and is very gentle on the leather. Works good on old Eboy special strops.

Do you use the pumice stone dry or wet? Would saddle soap be good to clean the strop after?

The pumice stone would be used dry. The idea is to sand the nick even with balance of the surface.

Saddle soap contains a wax element. Wax on a strop is not a good idea.
