Thanked: 25Help locate a strop...
Hi all,
I saw a strop recently online which looked like it was for putting convexing edges.
It was leather, supported by a layer of some sort of material, and secured to a block of wood. The main area of the stop was not supported, the leather was just secured at the two ends and the middle had about a 2 inch gap between it and the wood so it would have some flex to it. The setup was pretty well done, not a $10 item, would probably be a small chunk of change.
Problem is I can't find it again, anywhere. Anyone seen it and can direct me back to it?

Thanked: 13245It sounds like you are describing some type of "Loom Strop" but I am not sure.. Try searching that term and see if that's it...

Thanked: 25...
Sort of. The closest thing to it is here....
Stones & Strops
It's about halfway down the page. Mounted to wood, but has a cutout so that the leather will flex a bit. The one that I saw though was totally cut out instead of just a little section.
Damn who would have thought finding a strop would be so difficult.

Would it be a microtome strop?
Look here: eBay.com.my: LAPPING PLATE WITH LEATHER STROP MICROTOME MICROSCOPE (item 250444437333 end time Jun 22, 2009 00:01:45 MYT)
Or this one from Classic Shaving: Razor Strops, Hones, and Accessories
Or this one: http://www.executive-shaving.co.uk/s...strop-2052.php
Or this one: http://www.scharferladen.de/shop/wer...b4082cd62a01b6
The last link looks to me to be closest to what you describe.
Things like you describe turn up on ebay every so often as well. Maybe bidding has ended on your item?Last edited by Kees; 08-24-2009 at 07:17 AM. Reason: adding links

Sounds like a German style paddle strop.
If you're looking for a quality paddle, I reckon the bespoke ones on the invisible edge are pretty much the bee's knees...

Thanked: 25Thanks...
Thanks for all the help guys. I spent 2.5 hours last night online looking for this thing. Still can't find it. It definately wasn't on Ebay.
Kees has the right idea with this site....
MESSER RÖDTER © Solinger Fachgeschäft mit Schleiferei gegr. 1909 - Kochmesser Messer Scheren Rasiermesser Shop
It was that basic idea, but a bigger, better execution IMO. My browser history goes 3 weeks back...I'm about to crack that open and go page by page
Thanks again.
