IME they are both of equally high quality. I happen to really like the webbed fabric as the secondary strop and find the draw perfect on the Premium 1 from SRD. OTOH someone else may find they like the draw better on a different strop. IMO you can't go wrong either way.

My solution: I got a TM latigo with cotton; an SRD felt with webbing! Tony's forray into the shaving thing is dedicated to strop making. He was a pleasure to deal with. You can avoid playing favorites by then purchasing other items from SRP. The felt is a great touch-up strop, especially when used with diamond spray. Anyway you go will be fine.

Big + 1 on that. I like it way better than the pasted paddle although that is good too.

Ok, thanks guys. It seemsthey are equally good but that it might be a matter of preference...as always.

But is the SRD-one (it should have been SRD before also, thanks hi_bud_gl) broken in when it comes? Also what is the difference between the 'soft cotton' Tony Miller uses and the webbed fabric of SRD? I do not plan to use any pastes or sprays on my strop so this will not matter for me.

I recently got an SRD premium I, and it feels like it's broken in. I've never seen one of Tony's, but I can say that the SRD is really nice leather work. I might get another strop to leave at my girlfriend's house. May go with the SRD red latigo, because it's a few dollars less than the premium I.

Default Tony Miller or SRD . . .

    Gentlemen,

For me, it was a difficult choice between the two, so I bought both: the 2" Black Latigo from Straight Razors Designs and the 3" Red Latigo Artisan New Standard from Tony Miller.

I use Tony's for travel, and at home, whereas SRD's stays at home.

Both strops I find of the highest quality.

    Now everyone's happy, especially me.

    Regards,

    Obie

Neither one needs any break in. I've never used soft cotton. I've got Tony's linen and I like it a lot. I don't think you'll find much difference in results between cotton and linen from what I've read.

The webbed fabric gives me good results and I pretty much use it all the time now. I don't have paste on linen or on the fabric as I use a hanging felt with 0.5 diamond spray for that. As far as a measurable difference between the linen and fabric .... I can't say one is better than the other. Both are good. Sorry I couldn't be more specific but these things are hard to quantify .... for me anyway.
