Thread: Streich-Riemen Loom Strop ???

Are there any SRP members who have first or second-hand experience as to the quality and usefulness of the Streich-Riemen Loom Strop. It's the travel size, the leather surface approx. 8" X 1 1/2", one side for Chro/Ox .5 micron paste, the other is vegetable dyed Latigo leather.
I just got one from E-Bay for $25 bucks with 2 tubes of paste in like new condition, as the seller was a young lady who only used it once, and that was to buff out her hand made oboe reeds, whatever they are.
There isn't much here on SRP but when I Googled it, I found out that Dovo now distributes it using both company names and it sells for $60/$70.
As I am quite the novice, (hate newbie, sounds like one of the Seven Dwarfs), who just recently joined SRP and picked up my first 2 vintage razors, also from E-Bay, any feedback on this strop would be appreciated.

I find mine quite useful as well. I paid a similar amount for a used one, and it's been worth every penny.

If any other members have an opinion, please add it, as there is little on this strop here on SRP.

Most of them are made with Russia leather (=Juchten in German) which is very popular in Germany for making strops.

I love loom strops and have three or four of them.

Fortunately, I found them used at the flea market so the prices were very acceptable, indeed.

My opinion concerning the strop you are referring to is that the build quality and leather are good, but that the size of the strop is rather small for my taste. On the other hand, that might be a plus if you travel a lot.

PS Oboe reeds are for the musical instrument bearing that name. It is somewhat similar to the clarinet, but whereas the clarinet uses a single cane reed, the oboe uses two thin cane reeds working against one another to produce sound vibrations. And this one is 2 sided, as it is called Kohl 2 sided strop with different finishes I presume one of them is pasted with Kohl (=carbon): Kohl Straight Razor Sharpening Strop with Clamping Screw Belt - Knife Kingdom

I picked one up used a few months ago that was treated with diamond paste on one side. I like it for traveling or a light touch up.

I think streich reimen is basically german for paddle strop, not a brand name.

This was one of those "aha!" moments, thanks. That's kind of funny.

Just checked, and Babelfish translates the plain English word "strop" as "streichriemen". As far as any other markings, one side of the leather on mine says "Weltmeister".
