    Default Newbie Strop Question

I've watched the videos and read the wiki, but I have a question about the 'X'. Do you finish the stroke, move to the left or right, then flip, or flip, move to the left or right or roll the blade half way onto its spine, move left or right, and finish the flip on the other side? Does it matter?

    Thanks,

    -Mike

If you stop the stroke and then move the razor laterally on the strop, you stand a good chance of nicking or slicing the leather. I flip the razor up while it is still moving at the end of the stroke, make any necessary position adjustments, and then start the razor moving on the return stroke while rotating the edge back down to the leather.

    good stroking,

Simple rule: Never move razor side to side without forward motion.
If on the face big old nick.
If on the strop same thing

The flip occurs while the razor if off the strop, practice makes perfect. It help to have a practice strop and practice. Hang in there you will get it.

    Mike,
If you haven't, read the section on stropping in the Barber Manual, it might help. It certainly helped me.
