Default Breaking in leather for strop?

I just got a 2,5mm thick piece of cowhide leather and cut it into stripes of 7,5mm for a strop. The surface has no bumps.

Is there a need of breaking in this leather? How does the leather change during the process?

Some barber manuals recommend using a glass bottle to break the strop in. When I made my strop I just cut it and hung it. When the draw lessened I put some beeswax on it and rubbed off the excess.
