We used have hanging strop which had 2 sides. Rough side people were using for chro2 and smooth side for stropping. it was saving some money.
Now days people buys paddle strop from bay and they have option to choose rough or smooth. if this is the your case please choose smooth side both.'
You can use chro2 on smooth side of paddle strop it will help .
hope i am clear.
i am not sure what is your case. you have old hanging strop or new bay paddle strop.

Hey John,
Which Illinois do you have?
If the printing is on the "rough side", it sounds like it is an 827. and you are using it correctly. The other side of mine is corrugated.
If it is an 827, it has a very high nap, high draw, and is one of my all time favorite strops.
