    Cool Adventures in stropping

I got my first straight yesterday. "Shave ready" thought I kind of doubt you guys would think it such. Have no fear though, I have a razor on the way today that has just been professionally honed, I should have it soon.

So being the curious (and stropless) creature that I am, I decided to do some basic reading on strops, materials, the like. Turns out I have a new cotton webbing belt and a new dressy leather belt. TA-DA!! Makeshift strop.

    Opinions?

It is mandatory that you rough it at first with your equipment. Otherwise, what stories will you have for your grandchildren?

How wide are they ? If less than 2" be careful. You can do as much harm as good if you're not stropping correctly.

Here is the celebrated 1961 barber manual excerpt from the SRP Wiki. It has some real good stuff on stropping in the last couple of pages.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

They are definitely way thinner than that. But it at least feels like the blade is sharper...

Oh well, I should have a strop coming this week.
