    Default Zeepk Strop

I know everyone thinks that any Zeepk products are crap. But I was wondering about the strops. I found one for much cheaper then any others so far and wasn't going to purchase it. But after looking through this forum I find that many people use belts or just regular pieces of leather. Is the Zeepk product really that bad for this. I was just going to use a belt as well after reading this forum but thought that I would want to try Linen to form my own opinion.
    Thanks for the help.

I mean- most of Zeepk's products are, to the normal person, technically correct. They sell a razor shaped piece of steel, a hone sized piece of rock, etc. I would assume that their strops are legitimately leather, but the issue would be the grade of leather, the finish, cupping, the workmanship, etc. Cus when it boils down to it, a strop is just leather. The quality of the strop relies on the quality of leather, so while Zeepk has teh potential to be good, I feel like find a belt you KNOW is flat or selecting a piece of leather yourself is MUCH LESS RISKY, will work just as well (because I guarantee you Zeepk just buys oh, 1,000 hides of any old leather- whatever is cheapest for them- and cuts them into strop size and ships them out, unlike our artisans who hand cut each piece and reject bad leather) and will probably save you leather.

At this point I will steer to you Kenrup who sells the Filly ($20, no strings) or TM who sells a practice strop for $9 (only catch is you have to commit to buying a first-grade strop) both will be hand picked leather and first class work, and quite cheap.

The entire Zeepk range is generally accepted as being rubbish, as is pretty much any razor or accessory made in Pakistan. If you want a decent cheap strop, you might like to look at this strop - I have one and it does a good job (once broken in). The free shipping from Amazon makes this one of the better deals on this strop, and it's from a reputable company too (Fromm strops are just Illinois Razor Strop Co strops sold under a different name, not even rebranded).

Hope this helps you, welcome and good luck with the strop.

Buy a Ruprazor strop for $20.

When I first started I bought a cheapo Illinois looking strop for ~$20 and it beat the (*&^% out of my finely honed edges. Really it was worse than innefective, it was a device of malevolent intent.

A good strop is a joy to use and to hold, a bad strop is like rotteness in your bones.

Seraphim - does the Filly have linen? I thought not, hence why I didn't recommend one - he said in the OP that he wants to try linen. I agree with the sentiments though, buy a cheap strop that is known to be good (like the IRC 127 I recommended), rather than something cheap that looks like one that's known to be good.

    Default I have Zeepk experience

I had a zeepk strop and used it for a while. The "linen" was a bulky, bumpy piece of material. It was more cork than linen at about 1/4 inch thick. I don't know how they could call it linen. The leather side was alright, but it wasn't thick enough to hold its shape and would concave if you pulled it taught. Granted it would kind of work, but I highly suggest you get another starter strop. Even a belt (as you mentioned you were leaning towards) would be better.

Actually the Zeepk Strop is wonderful for administering corporal punishment.

Considering you could have a quality strop for decades, may as well invest in a good one! Worst case scenario -- sell it down the road if you don't use it.
