    Default Where to Buy?

This place is great, was looking to get CrO and found a post for it!

But, I'm looking for a paddle strop. Something for travel. I travel a LOT! What do you suggest for a travel strop?

Also, I'm looking to make a strop with CrO paste. Probably on balsa wood? Where do you get this? With everything closing down now it is harder and harder to find things in a town. I was going to Hobby Town today, pulled in to find them closed.

I've checked the classifieds and can't find much there.

    So, I need two things:

    Travel/ paddle strop
    CrO strop

    Any help with suggestions?

Classicshaving.com They have all the things you listed, including the balsa wood bench hone. The CrO paste is listed as "Classic Brand Lapping Paste." They also have Diamond paste and travel strops in addition to the paddle strops. Check 'em out. Don't know about how competitive the prices are though. I usually go for the site where I can get it all in one order. Even if it costs a dollar or two more.

If you can find a solid art supply shop around where you live like the one in Clemson, they sell nice big sheets of balsa for about $3. And if you are interested in a travel strop, you could always just pick up a Filly at ruprazors.com, its $20 and pre-pasted on the back side with CO. I have essentially the same thing hanging on my door right now and it will become my travel strop as soon as I decide to invest in a real strop.

I'm in Greenville this week. Surely there is something, just not where I've been. There was the closed down Hobby Town.

I've thought about the deal like a Filly strop, but hear it's bad to roll the strops. And, it would have to be rolled to go into my suitcase.

I have heard the same thing, and I don't think I would mess with rolling a more expensive or complex strop. I did actually receive the simple leather strip of a strop I have now rolled in a box along with the razor I got, and it is in fine condition. I think a single strip of leather is fine to roll. Since it is all one piece there are no layers to separate and form wrinkles.

That being said, I have actually considered getting a paddle strop too. Let me know if you find anything good.

When I go for a travel strop I will almost certainly choose the SRD paddle strop, probably with some of their diamond spray. I'm unsure at the moment about what kind of covering it has so might have a custom "wallet" made for it too.

I'd go with a very simple smaller hanging strop, like TM practice strop. It has no metal hardware, is lightweight, and can fit in any size luggage.

Personally, I have a 3" X 10" leather on wood paddle strop that I keep in a 1 gallon ziplock bag for traveling...it's only maybe 3/8" thick so it fits in the front of the suitcase easily.

If you are trying to put something together on the road before you get home, you could always go to any home depot/lowes and pick up a piece of ANY thin wood and have them cut it to size, and pick up a bottle of contact cement to go with it...then you could hit a thrift shop (or any other store) for a pair of jeans, even kids sizes would work with less waste...simply glue the jeans material to the board, and you got a super cheap strop. You could always add the CrO to that when you get around to it, and keep it in a gallon ziplock to keep it from turning your clothes green.
