Thanked: 1720 passes on linen prior to stropping on the leather part.Personally iI use linen with red paste to refresh the blade , but I am sure plenty of people will be against it.

A long time ago thebigspendur did a "great experiment" and found that 60 linen and 60 leather were most effective and there was no payoff in going beyond that . I do 50 and 50 linen and leather. No paste on my main strop and all I do to condition the leather is rub it a few times with the palm of my hand before I strop.
The natural oils in the skin will condition it and it isn't overlkill. I also strop 20 or 30 after the shave following rinsing the blade off and wiping it with a tissue. Just my routine, not necessarily the best way.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
