    Default Canvas vs. linen

    Hi,
Any difference between canvas or linen? I assume these are used the same way...

I'm not sure if the different materials actually have a different effect on the edge at all. You do use them the same way though.

I guess the canvas is slightly "harder" than the linen, but that is a total guess and as to what difference it makes, I have no idea!

Anyone with a USB scope (and a few strops!) prepared to put up some pics to show the difference?

I use bottom weight canvas purchased from a local fabric shop. It puts a better edge on my razors than the origianl Illinois canvas. Bottom weight linen is supposed to be the primo stuff, but I like the canvas. Happy to send you some.

    PM my with a size.

I prefer Tony Miller's Smooth Cotton to the Genuine Linen. The linen looks like a seatbelt to me (no offense to the master craftsman, of course). I think they both work pretty well, though. Personal preference, I suppose.

Weirdly enough, the best "linen" I have is a piece of nylon webbing. It's the only one I use now.

Linen feels smoother to me... just got my TM w/ cotton and I actually prefer it... seems like it provides more draw/feedback.
