I can get hanging hair popping edges with .5 as the finsihing paste, but I am now using the .25 too. At first I thought TOO sharp was bad, but I am now a believer in the sharper the better. I am also a huge fan of the balsa inserts I mad for my handamerica hone. The edge seems to glide and hug the surface better than leather. There is no bounce at all. Tony, since you are now making balsa strops; how are you finding the surface for paste work?

Thanked: 0larry, if you get super edges using 0.5, and now the balsa is gonna ratchet up the 0.25 for you, i guess the 0.25 on my plain leather strop glued to a board ought to make for good edges. you get your 0.25 from ray?

Are you using plain old balsa wood with paste on it? The stuff model airplanes are made of?

I made a pair of wide balsa strops last weekend and one is on it's way to AF Davis to test out. These are 2 sided paddles 10" long like my others but they are 2 1/2" wide like a hanging strop. Lots of surface area so less need for the X pattern on them.
Should be in Alan's hands tomorrow for a full test. The balsa is standard model airplane type stuff bonded to a hardwood board as a backer. Alan's is balsa on one side and my red latigo on the other for finishing.
These will be on my website by Monday...........yes, website! Finally got the home page up and running and am working on loading the storefront tonight.
It will have my usual fare of hanging and paddle strops along with the Cushion Hones with leather backing. These will be all the "special" items that are not really eBay type items.
