Thread: My first DIY bench strop (hone?)

The diamond pastes arrived yesterday. I've put the 0.5 micron on another "Glass backed micropore Strop" and gave it a go on a "The 1066" straight razor that had (so far) being my worst shaver.

After about 40 laps it shaved like a lightsaber!

Great idea. I may have to try it. I'll be interested to see how the diamond works with it. My experiences so far with diamond paste directly on glass has been bad. The very hard glass surface and diamond grit rolling around on the glass just shreds the edges of razors especially on the coarser grits when backhoning.

Tried today the 1.0 micron paste and the 0.5 (each in a diferent micropore strop) on a hoffritz. Did 20 laps on each and had the best shave I've ever had with that razor.
