Thiers-Issard Paste info
Could I get some info on the TI pastes please, I only have one TI and so I would rather not invest in a seperate set up just for one razor, I have cr-ox but would get other pastes too but do they have to be TI? what grit/micron are they and I have aslo heard that a loom strop is recomended. any TI users help out here.

I am basically still anewbie, but do know the Thiers issard paste has a 10,000 grit:
Thiers-Issard Razor Sharpening Paste
Recommended by Thiers-Issard as the best way to maintain the shave-ready sharpness of your Premium Quality Thiers-Issard razor.
This half ounce of paste goes a very long way. Dab a bit on the rough leather side of your Thiers-Issard double sided strop and and work it well into the leather. Strop your razor in the usual manner until the dulled edge is re-newed.
Formulated using both Aluminum Oxide and Diamond Particles as the cutting agents which are suspended in a non-toxic paste bound together with tiny cloth fibers to prevent softening. The edge attained with routine use of this paste is comparable to that achieved with a 10,000 grit barber hone.

Hmm, if I finnish with a 12k stone and then go to cr-ox so why would a 10,000 grit paste be work better unless its the strop being a loom strop the tentsion can be adjusted so I hear, just wondering not being snarky too mandrake

Thanked: 13250That is a quote from CS's website... I would be very hesitant to put those numbers in stone....

Paste is a very personal thing, some work for you with the razor you have some don't....
As to it working better or worse than the CrOx you would have to try it out....
Myself if I want more sharp from a razor I go to the source first which is the stone... Once you get every bit of sharp from the stones then start on the pastes and adjust for effect...

Thanks GSSIXGUN I have it honed and it is very shap indeed, just not dialed in and heard about the pastes but I dont think I want to go down that road. Ive got a plan B lets see how it likes an oxyacetylene torch, just kidding. I think I have a solution, and I will post it up for any others with tricky TI's and newbies like myself

Look here:

I guess this bit from the above link really covers it:
The best tool to use with your diamond sharpening-pastes, as we have
said, is a paddle-strop . A surface of soft wood (such as balsa) can be chosen, but we
prefer leather. In either case, the surface must be sufficiently rough or grainy to hold
the paste. With too smooth or hard a surface, the paste will simply be wiped off with
each pass of the blade--not only wasteful and expensive, but ineffective. The
smoothest leather surface (of your paddle- or hanging strop) should be reserved
for either Chromox-paste application or use of an un-pasted strop in a final, preshave
touch-up. The paste should be applied to the surface in very small amounts:

Thanked: 286i'd just like to say i have the full range of bio paste on ti 4 sidded paddle . this stuff cuts quik and if you over do it it gives you a seriously harsh edge . i soon learned 5 laps to start with is the way to go . i tryed 10 on each grit finished with cro.ox after obtaining a real fine edge of a coticule. this is what aati recomends. my personal experiance was the edge was way to harsh and i never copied it again . i also have TI rasoir pate i have tryed it on TI paddle and my canvas hanging strop. after coticule on the paddle i did'nt rate it. After hanging strop canvas side with paste the edges have been top class for me i have now used it on at least 100 differant razors and the results are as smooth as coticule and also added sharpness in cases where your hone has'nt maxed out , i have many pastes and i like them all the diamond spray is great stuff to. if you want one paste the TI rasoir is the one i would have. i'd ignore the grit rating of 10,000 because it certanly leaves a smooth edge i would say it feels nice on your face thats what matters.
