Thread: Strop for a new shaver.

Alright so I'm going to be getting a Straight Razor soon and I need a strop, a guy told me a good one to start with would be "The Filly" on ruprazor.com. Well I don't know how much of a difference different strops make but I found one on ebay that "looks" to be nicer although that means nothing I know looks don't mean anything. But its a few bucks cheaper and I figured if its about the same quality or even better then I'll go ahead and get it.

I would say get the Filly.Sometimes those "cheap" ebay strops have a slick surface intended to give it a good look that will sell,but they have very little "draw" or resistance to the sliding motion of the razor on the strop.KenRup's strops are carefully chosen and treated to give the proper draw.

Not to mention they probably make 1000 of those things at a time where as Ken & others like him make theirs one at a time and use quality materials & craftsmanship. These guys will buy whatever leather they can get since as far as they are conserned "leather's leather". It might look "nice" but....

well i have the 3" version of that one and i cant wait to get something else
they send it rolled up thight and if you plan to use it your looking at a lot of work getting it to acseptable condition

also expect cuts aleady in the surface of this one

Well, the B&B works as a strop, but I would not buy another one. In fact I just ordered a a vintage blades strop as I finally got fed up with the B&B strop. The B&B razors I would definitely avoid-unless maybe as an envelope opener-they are horrible and can't take an edge.
