Thanked: 0strop dressing residue
Hey, I redressed my strop again, but this time I think I didnt fully rub it all in. When I checked on it again this morning there were these dark, sorta greyish streaks where I assume little streaks of unabsorbed strop dressing were. As far as aestetics go, I really couldn't care less, but will this affect the functionality of my strop and if so, can I get rid of them and how?

Thanked: 2209Is this a brand new, unused strop or a used one? The grey streaks sound like metal left from honing a razor.

Thanked: 0Its used (new about a month and a half ago) but these appeared literally overnight and only where the pools of strop dressing were when I left it to dry so I'm reasonably certain the grey streaks are from the dressing.

Thanked: 0Hmmm...well there appears to be another twist. Its not really wiping off. If I rub pretty hard with my finger it looks like its smearing a bit, but not coming out. But to my best judgement, its not affecting hte strops actual performance. Maybe itll come off when I get around to cleaning it. Oh well, doesn't matter. Thanks threeput.

I have had the same thing when I used Fromm strop dressing. if you leave too much on the surface overnight the thinner lois and conditioners soak into the leather but the solids stay on the surface and get tacky. You may want to apply a little more dressing to act as a solvent and with a cloth, no paper towel rub off all of it immediately along with the tacky buildup.
The Fromm dressing is similar to Lexol but has a high percentage of solids in it which can build up over time if not fully rubbed in.

Thanked: 0Ahhh...I just tried stropping and some of that solid crap built up on my razor. I just did what you said and I think I got most of the gunk, but the streaks are still there. Did it stain the leather or something or are the solids still in there?

440,
The dressing does tend to pull the color right out of a strop. Maybe it is stained or it just drew some of the dark coloring out from the dye used in the strop.
No harm done really, just cosmetic.

After I strop sometimes I can notice a little bit of strop paste residue on the blade. Is this normal? I can't seem to see any 'excess' on the strop itself, but I can see this thin grease line just above the razor from the strop. Is this common? I just wipe it off, i guess that is the solution. Any ideas?
