Thanked: 39How high the strop?
Gentlemen!
I wish to gather your opinions on the height to secure my stop. I'm thinking about waist high, but thought I would check with others before I make a potential mistake. Also, the securing device is in question. I envision a wood screw based hook hopefully with some swivel o-ring or D-ring. Surely Home Depot or Ace Hardware would have a useable fixture to screw into a cabinet.
Any helpful hints will truly be appreciated.
Regards,

If you take into consideration the default position for professional barbers was a hook just below the arm of the barber chair waist high or thereabouts is where I park mine. I use a door knob with a zip tie around it and clip the strop into that with the spring clip attached to the strop hardware.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

It's a matter of what works best for you. For quite some time I had mine at shoulder height simply because I had hooks at that height. I now have mine at waist height and use doorknobs. I'm equally comfortable with either.

Mine's around waist height. It's on the door handle at 1 metre. I don't think it matters & is just down to what you feel comfortable with, or what's convenient.

Waist high seems to be the height of concensus. Barbers have used that fastening point since the days of Sweeney Todd. I prefer elbow high, but have been in one minority or another since I can remember.

Thanked: 45I've settled on hooking the D ring on my SRD strop onto the neck of a coat hanger in my closet. Keeps the strop away from bathroom humidity. I just strop before I head into the shower.
As a consequence of this, the top of my strop is higher than the handle; I strop slightly downward toward the hand.

Thanked: 13249JMHO !!!
I really truly believe that the strop should be at an angle (maybe 20-30 degrees)...
Either higher or lower than the holding hand I don't think makes a difference...
But in my mind you should either be stropping up to or down to the hook...
Why???
I believe (absolutely no proof) it helps you realize less pressure on the edge when stropping...

Glen,
I've only ever tried at waist height, as it's just seemed a natural height. I'll give it a go at a different height & see if it works for me.
