Thread: Jemico, German made

Well I just found the Strop I bought from a Razor dealer in Arizona about 10 years ago. It is a Jemico brand and it is made in Germany. It say's it's Russian leather. I've never used it before and it's still in the original packaging.

For my knives I've been using a home-made strop I bought from a guy out of Hot Springs Arkansas. And it's been a great strop for knives.

OK experts is this Jemico strop a good one or did I get taken for $40+**?

It appears to look like high grade leather to me. But I only know enough to be dangerous at this point

Holy Popcorn Batman!!! I can't believe none of you guys have never heard of that German made Jemico strop I was asking you about. I did a GOOGLE search on it this afternoon and I found at least 15 websites that sells this brand of strop.

Is it a really bad or low grade strop? Did I get ripped off? Darn I paid $40 and change for the damned thing Or are there just so many better ones out there that this brand just gets ignored.

Now I have noticed this brand of strop for sale mostly on knife websites. Maybe I could take a hint from that. I hope this thing isn't a piece of junk Oh well maybe I could use it for a strop that I load up with rouge or honing compounds and buy a better one to do my serious stropping with. Oh well life is a constant education isn't it

Hey it may be a perfectly fine strop. Has it got a separate linen or canvas hanging with it ? Russian is a tanning process meant for razor strops. Give it a trial run and see how it works for you. Not everyone here has heard of everything.

i got one i bought off of ebay when i first started. i paid 18 including shipping. it has been a great strop so far good drag. my only complaint is that its not as wide as traditional "Razor" strops, other than that i think a strop is a strop in my oppinion.

I have owned a few over the years and they were fine. I think you will find they are nearly identical to the Dovo strops as each brand has matching models across the board.

I have one that I got from Classic Shaving a few years ago. Perfectly good strop but you will want a wider and longer strop soon. I still use the canvas side every day though.

I'll second that.

When i was first looking for a strop there were plenty of Dovo's to be had over here in England, but very expensive. I saw the Jemico on the bay & took a chance.

Mines got the padded handles. It's a great strop! It does everything you could want it to.

In maybe 70% of my posts I have "Jemico" as my strop. I only have 3 strops actually. And the first I bought was the Jemico. I like it. It is a decent quality, low price strop. Great as a travel strop as it is relatively small..

just saw that strop as a Dovo brand on the SRD site for 70 so i think you did good for 40.

I'm pretty sure Jemico is the company that makes Dovo's strops...
