    Default Old Strop Worth Saving?

I just inherited my grandfather's straight razors and strop. The strop is a little dried out, but I want to try and save it.

I plan on using saddle soap on it and then neatsfoot oil. Do I need to sand it? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,

Clean it and treat it as you have said and grampa's strop will be your newest old friend. Horsehide doesn't have the same draw as cowhide, its a little slicker. What a beautiful piece!

Thanks for the reply. Does it need to be sanded?

if it leaves anything sticking out after treatment you can consider sanding a bit

I think you would rather use a pumice stone on it rather than sandpaper.

Hi All, I'm new to this as well and have just recieved my Grandfathers gear. His strop is pig skin, can I use the sane treatment as above on it?

    Thanks
