Thanked: 0how to put the paste on the paddle strop
I have received the TI paddle strop from Classicshaving and put on the TI paste on the black (rough) side and 0.5 diamond paste on the natural leather (smooth) side. I found it sticky when pusching and pulling the razor on the paddle. Not the same as I strop on the non-pasted leather DOVO strop which is effortless. Am I putting too much sharpening paste? How much paste should be put and how to put the paste on the paddle? Should I need to wet my figure to work the paste onto the leather to even it out? Many thanks for your advise.

I know what you mean. I've gotten the same feeling from the 0.5 micron chromium oxide. I wonder how much of it is the leather surface and how much is the paste. I feel it more as I increase the pressure on the strop. I'm too timid to push it too far. I just apply enough pressure to make it start to drag slightly.

Thanked: 2209The amount of pressure to use is the amount that is required to keep the blade flat on the hone/paddle strop.
The amount of paste to use is approx 1-2 pea sized drops, worked into the leather. If you have more than that, then wipe some of it off.
Feel free to wet your finger to move the paste around. It should not feel sticky.Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

Thanked: 0Randy,
Thanks for your advice. But how 1-2 pea size paste can work into whole of the paddle surface? Is only the middle part of the paddle needs the paste or the whole of the paddle? The paste is quick thick, should I need a bit of water to spread the paste all over the paddle surface?
Best Regards,

Thanked: 2209Call classicshaving.com and ask Ray if the paste is water or oil based.
Then use that to thin the paste and move it around. It should cover the entire area of the paddle strop.
I believe the black paste is an oil/fat base so use oil of some kind to thin the paste.
The diamond paste I think is water based so use water to thin that and spread it around. Check with Ray to make sure.
Hope this helps,Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

I usually use quite a few less than pea sized dabs along the length of the paddle and rub them in well. I then make even smaller dabs in between on any really bare areas and rub those in. You want it rubbed in enough it does not build up on the razor. You aid good money for those diamonds, leave them in the strop!
The TI paste seems a little more difficult. I let the very end hang out of the tube and rub it along the strop getting maybe 50% coverage. I then rub it in as well as possible as it is sticky. After a few days it seems to dry and work better. At first it simply grabs at the razor.
When all is done I wind up with 85 to 90% coverage on the stop.
