What do you guys think?
My SRP TI 6/8 will be here on friday. I ordered some .5 micron paste and a 4 sided paddle strop from Tony. Is this 1 paste enough to get the razor shave ready? or should I send it out for honing? (I don't want to hone this one on my own at first.)
Replies appreciated...

Send it here, it will be ready in a 6 months or so
seriosely, .5 should be ok on that TI, I understand they are quite sharp outofthebox. And don't be afraid of the blade...

Ryan,
I think the .5 may be okay on the TI right out of the box but I did need 1.0 on one of mine. I had thought you were already getting it honed when I suggested the 0.5 only to start.

Mine came ready to shave just out of the box. It was one of the only razors I have that did. I only stropped and tried it on my tree trunks. It shaved beautifully. Don't know I would start with the .5 until you have stropped and tried it. Then you will know what needs to be done afterward.

Sounds like a good idea. I have two similar TI razors, same price point, just different cosmetics from two different dealers (TI will brand them for individual dealers) both were great buys, one was shave ready and one needed a bit of work and is still not where I want it.
Given a choice I would still take a new TI over a Dovo if looking at similar priced razors in their lineup.

First strop the razor then test shave. If its not good enough then perform 30 laps on the 0.5 micron pasted strop, clean the razor then perform 30-40 laps on the plain leather, then test shave again.
If still not good enough then repeat the process yet again. After that you can either get some coarser abrasive paste or send it out to be honed. In any event you will want the 1.0 micron paste to maintain your razors at the least. If you can find a 2 or three micron paste I would also get that. Handamerican.com has the 1.8 micron black diamond paste available. Maybe Ray at classicshaving.com has some 2 or 3 micron stuff available also.
Hope this helps,Last edited by randydance062449; 12-02-2005 at 08:23 AM.
