Thanked: 530Another question
So, I'm still planning on getting a TM horsehide strop, but someone (Ookla) gave me a good suggestion... Getting a Latigo/Horsehide, and using my old Latigo/Cotton for a cotton, and pasted latigo strop...
So, my question to you guys is, have you guys had better results pasting leather, or pasting cotton?
Thank'ee

I've had good results with pasted leather, canvas, and felt. I couldn't say one was better than another although the SRD felt hanger with the diamond spray is awfully good.

If you have the money ain't nothing wrong with it. You might consider getting his trifecta strop with horse latigo and material. (dunno if he's still doing it though) then you have a really nice strop with everythign and you can paste both the linen and latigo of the other with different abrasives.
One thing I am wondering though is why have both Horse and Latigo? Like I said if you can afford it why not (and we all love more gear so I'm not blaming you) but I personally would be good to go with just horse and linen/canvas. Thats my thoughts.

Thanked: 530Mr. Miller told me a little while ago that the Tri-Strop was discontinued.
I was going to go with Latigo/Horsehide so that I could use my old Cotton/Latigo as a cotton strop and a pasted latigo, then use the latigo and horsehide of my new strop... but now I'm sorta leaning towards Horsehide and cotton, and pasting the latigo's cotton... Since I don't think it would make -that- much difference, but would save me around 40 bucks... What do you think?
Edit: For record, I already have a Latigo/Cotton strop. I want to get a Horsehide strop. My original plan was Horsehide and Linen, but linen is out of stock, so I figured I'd get horsehide and cotton, then use my latigo strop's cotton for pasting, and use the horsehide's cotton, then latigo, then horsehide for daily stropping, while having the cotton from the latigo loaded with CrOx or something of the sort... But then someone suggested that stropping on leather usually works better, tempting me to do Latigo and Horsehide, then use the cotton of my old latigo for daily, and put the crox on my old latigo...
I just don't know what the best method would be... in the interest of saving money, I think I'll do horsehide and cotton.

It's a personal preference thing. I personally don't see the point to stropping on both leathers, but some people do. If it were me I'd go with your edit plan- get a horse/cloth and paste the cloth of the latigo/cloth. My daily use strop is a horse/cotton and its great. I also really like my vintage shell/linen but its vintage NOS so I don't like using it too much...

When I first came around I already had a vintage Red Imp and it was fine. I read about the 3" strops and about how many guys raved about Tony's latigo. OTOH, some guys didn't like the latigo and others didn't like the horse. Some wanted a lot of draw and others didn't. So I ordered a horse/latigo figuring I'd try both and still have my vintage linen on my Red Imp. I would do 25 on the latigo and 25 on the horse. (after 50 on the linen). Worked well for me but TBH I prefer horse. SRD's Premium 1 had more draw than the horse and less than the latigo and that is the feel I seem to like the best. It depends on the individual as one is probably as effective as the other.
